Behavioral Parent Training.

Behavioral parent training recognizes that an important entry point for changing a teen's behavior problems is sharpening certain parenting behaviors. Traditionally, behavioral parenting interventions have emphasized use of positive attending and praise, delivering directions effectively, contingency management strategies, and communication and problem-solving skills. To that, I integrate intervention strategies drawn from DBT aimed at addressing the unique challenges faced by parents of adolescents experiencing difficulty regulating their emotions and who exhibit suicidal/self-harming behaviors. Such interventions include validation and observing personal limits, as well as skills aimed at helping parents to regulate their own emotions.
